Health as Resistance 101
Health care is becoming increasingly unobtainable for many. People are forced to make grave decisions surrounding their health and/or take on crushing medical debt.
Are we saying if you don't have enough money you don't deserve to live?
People of color are less likely to receive preventative healthcare services when compared with white counterparts. People of color generally wait longer for those services and the services rendered are lower quality. For many conditions, People of color experience worse health outcomes.
It does not have to be this way.
Health education allows for personal empowerment and better health outcomes. Generational and indigenous wisdom around health is being pushed out of the conversation, bring it back. Building and then sharing knowledge can shift healthcare in an entire community! BE the beacon, take control of your health.
Health as Resistance 101:
1. Focus on the Top 4 Preventative Health Moves: Eat more whole foods, move your body regularly, get quality sleep, reduce stress.
2. Schedule your regular check ups and screenings.
3. Maintain your healthy social connections, check in with your loved ones often.
4. Educate yourself on personal health issues to build confidence around health professionals so you feel at ease speaking up and asking questions. You know your body best!
5. Get to know, even love, your Self and body. Pain/ailment isn’t punishment, it’s communication. Listen to your body, treat yourself with compassion. Be a loving/understanding parent to yourself and that energy WILL ripple outwards!
